To Incorporate, or not to Incorporate?

One of the most common questions asked by both new and experienced real estate investors is: should I purchase this property personally or in a corporation? The traditional response of tax accountants is, “it depends.”  There are several tax and non-tax factors that should be considered and discussed with your tax accountant in any particular situation before making a decision.

But, all of this may be changing…

On July 18, 2017, the Department of Finance proposed significant changes to how Canada taxes the income of private corporations, the most significant changes in several decades.  These changes, if implemented as proposed, would largely take effect starting January 1, 2018.
So, how do these changes affect the decision of whether to buy your next property personally or in a corporation?  For experienced investors, what, if anything, should you do with properties that you currently hold in a corporation?

In this presentation, Tom will review the pros and cons of owning real estate in a corporation under the current system, discuss the potential impacts of the proposed tax changes to buy-and-hold investment structures, and hopefully answer that enduring question — “to incorporate, or not to incorporate.”

REIN Engage; Raising Capital

Richard Dolan will be sharing with you the skills you need in order to have successful conversations with people about investing in real estate either with you or through you. Growing your portfolio by one or many more properties may depend on your ability to connect, converse and commercially define successful real estate investment opportunities – but how do you do this?

In this special one hour session, Richard will share the strategies and step-by-step exercises on how to:
• Start a conversation about real estate investing
• Open the dialogue to co-venture or raise money
• Handle objections or concerns so that they become accelerators to what comes next – not deal breakers

Members who attend this session of REIN Engage will enjoy an interactive component in order to fortify the lessons Richard shares and adopt the insights as their own.
